  • 1920

    Founded as a wholesaler of rice, cereals, and feed by the late Gentaro Arai at 983 Shinjuku Hiratsuka-shi, Kanagawa Pref.

  • 1949

    Marugen Food Industry Co., Ltd. (later known as the "Arai Shoji Co., Ltd.") launched and the late Gonpachi Arai assumed President and CEO.

  • 1954

    Tokyo Sales Division and Hadano Branch opened.

  • 1956

    Arai Real-Estate Co., Ltd. (later known as "Allied Co., Ltd.") launched.

  • 1960

    Arai Driving School launched and the Suka School opened as the 6th Kanagawa prefectural accredited driving school.

  • 1961

    Arai Oil Co., Ltd. launched.
    Paprika Hiratsuka Co., Ltd. (later known as "Corolla Shonan") launched.

  • 1964

    Head Office moved to 9-73 Amanuma-cho, Hiratsuka-shi Kanagawa Pref.
    A general food wholesales market ("Hiratsuka Market") including fruits and vegetables, livestock products, and a collection of diverse specialty stalls opened.
    Hanamizu Arai Driving School opened.

  • 1970

    A general food wholesales market opened at 314 Kanai-cho Totsuka-ku, Yokohama-shi (Kanagawa Pref.). (later known as "Yokohama Market").

  • 1972

    Expand and doubled the size of the Hiratsuka Market.
    A computerized record system to optimize efficiency is introduced.

  • 1973

    Arai Fishery Co., Ltd. launched.
    Arai Parking opened.
    Shonan Seika becomes an affiliate of Arai Shoji.

  • 1974

    Expanded Yokohama Market.

  • 1975

    Shonan Seika becomes an affiliate of Arai Shoji.

  • 1976

    Echo Shoji Co., Ltd. launched.
    Echo Supermarket opened in Fujisawa (Kanagawa Pref.).
    Kurukaka Co., Ltd. launched in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The development of beef feed and livestock agriculture is initiated.
    Kanagawa Sankyo Organic Co., Ltd. launched. The waste industry as well as the manufacturing and selling of organic fertilizer are ventured into.

  • 1978

    The Suka Arai Driving School relocated and re-opened as Toda Arai Driving School.
    Oiso Set-Net Fishery Co., Ltd. launched.

  • 1979

    Brajan Industry Co., Ltd. launched in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The trading business is ventured into.

  • 1980

    Taiau Pig Farming Co., Ltd. launched in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
    Arai Shoji opened a Tokyo branch office at 1-2-8 Nihonbashi Chuo-ku Tokyo.
    Arai Shoji made a business partnership with Antarctica Inc. (Brazil’s largest beverage manufacturer). Obtained exclusive distribution rights to sell guarana drink in Japan and Southeast Asia.

  • 1981

    Construction of Arai Building 1 at 17-2 Beniya-cho, Hiratsuka-shi Kanagawa Pref. is comleted. And Arai Shoji and Arai Co., Ltd.’s head office moved to it.
    PC store Microcomputer Square Arai opened on the first floor of Arai Building 1.
    An Echo store opened in Chigasaki (Kanagawa Pref.).
    Toyoko Cement Industry Co., Ltd. merged with Arai Group.

  • 1982

    Arai Kawasaki Seika Co., Ltd. launched.
    Arai Shoji opened Arai Tomei Atsugi Distribution Center in Atsugi (Kanagawa Pref.) as the third general food market.

  • 1983

    An Echo opened in Minamiyana (Kanagawa Pref.).
    Ohadano General Food Market Co., Ltd. merges with Arai group.
    Cooperation with Nippaku School’s exchange program initiates.

  • 1984

    Bio-Chemical Co., Ltd. launched.
    Orient Western Co., Ltd. launched.
    Allied Holdings Co., Ltd. (California US) launched.
    Arai Shoji opened a representative office in Los Angeles.

  • 1986

    Jyuichi Arai assumed the role of President.
    Arai Shoji acquires a liquor sales license.

  • 1987

    Arai Amsterdam Finance BV launched in the Netherlands.
    Arai Eastern-Japan Wholesale distribution Center (Price Club) opened in Oyama, Tochigi Pref.
    Kanto Central Auto Auction opened (later known as "AAAI Oyama").
    Fresh One Supermarket opened in Hiratsuka (Kanagawa Pref.).

  • 1988

    Western-Japan Arai Shoji Co., Ltd. launched in Fukuoka (Fukuoka Pref. Kyushu area). Arai Co., Ltd. changes its name to Allied Co., Ltd.

  • 1989

    AAAI Shonan venue launched in Hiratsuka (Kanagawa Pref.).
    Auto auction for large scale industrial and construction machinery opened at AAAI Oyama.
    Brajan Hotelaria Ltd. launched in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The hospitality Industry is ventured into.

  • 1990

    Ciema Corporation (temporary personnel agency) launched in the US.
    Tiger Shark Company, an affiliate that sells and manufactures golf materials in the US opened.

  • 1991

    interTrend Communications Inc. (an advertising business) launched in the US.
    Aragon Engineering Inc. (Markets restored drive shafts) launched in the US.
    AAAI Fukuoka opened in Fukuoka Pref. (Kyushu area).
    Ai City Co., Ltd. become a partner of Arai Shoji.

  • 1992

    Western-Japan Price Club opened in Fukuoka (Fukuoka Pref. Kyushu area).
    AAAI Sendai venue opened in Sendai (Miyagi pref.).

  • 1994

    interTrend Communication Inc. New York office opened.
    A specialty store for food ingredients opens in Imaichi (Tochigi Pref.).

  • 1995

    Tunipex (a set net fishery business of Bluefin tuna) launched in Portugal.
    The Sasaguri Gokurakuen Foundation launched in Fukuoka (Fukuoka Pref. Kyushu area).
    Fukuoka Taiyo Food Center Co., Ltd. (Fukuoka Pref. Kyushu area) became a partner of Arai Shoji.

  • 1996

    Supermarket, Taiyo Shonan Coast Side store opened (a venture into the retail industry).
    Taiyo Oiso store opened.
    Japan Rice Auction Co., Ltd. (management of rice auction venue) launched.

  • 1997

    The first foreign supermarket, Pepper Corn Market Price opened.
    A new AAAI Oyama venue opened.
    Taiyo Hiratuska store opened.
    Construction on a new company housing, "Freude Takahamadai" completed.

  • 1998

    Fukuoka Arai Auto Academy opened.
    A corporate internet website is created.
    Sales of Guarana Antarctica in the center of metropolitan areas increase through commercials (Fuji-TV Ch. etc.) and convenience stores (Lawson, Three-F, Sun-kus etc.).

  • 1999

    Supermarket, One Dish opened in Arai Building 1.
    The late Kihachiro Arai assumed the role of President.

  • 2000

    Arai Shoji Co., Ltd. and Allied Co., Ltd. merged, and the name of the company remains as Arai Shoji Co., Ltd.

  • 2001

    The corporation identity has reformed from "AAAI (Arai Auto Auction International)" to "Arai Auto Auction Group", and so the each venues are renamed "Arai Auto Auction *** venue". Arai Auto Auction Bayside venue (the old AAAI Shonan venue) is launched.
    Jyuichi Arai once again assumes the role of President.

  • 2002

    Bike auction launched at the Arai Auto Auction Bayside venue.

  • 2003

    Arai Shoji Co., Ltd. takes over Western-Japan Arai Shoji Co., Ltd.

  • 2005

    Jyuichi Arai assumed the role as Chairman of the Board and Ryozo Arai become President.
    Arai Auto Auction Sendai venue introduced projected image auctions.

  • 2006

    The facilities of the Arai Auto Auction Oyama venue expand.
    Arai Auto Auction Fukuoka venue started projected image auction.

  • 2007

    Tokyo office opened.
    Price Club Fukuoka relocated.
    Price Club Oyama relocated.

  • 2008

    Supermarket, Kattekoya store opens in Hiratsuka (Kanagawa pref.).

  • 2009

    An internal company system is introduced (AA Company and D&A Company).

  • 2010

    Arai Shoji adopts a committee governed company structure.
    Focus Co., Ltd. launched

  • 2011

    Arai Shoji Distribution Center opened.
    Hadano Fruits and Vegetable market become independent and Arai Vegeus Co., Ltd. launched.
    Supermarket ARS Mizumoto store opened (Tokyo).
    Gentaro Soba store (Soba restaurant) opened.
    Arai Auto Auction Sendai venue became independent and Sendai Arai Auto Auction Co., Ltd. launched.

  • 2012

    Arai Shoji adopts the use of company auditors.
    ARS Hiratsuka store opened (Kanagawa pref.).
    ARS Musashiurawa store opened (Saitama pref.).

  • 2013

    Gentaro Soba Kasuga store opened.
    ARS Isehara store opened (Kanagawa pref.).
    ARS Minatomirai store opened (Kanagawa pref.).

  • 2014

    Tokyo Office relocated.
    ARS Totsuka store opened (Kanagawa pref.).

  • 2015

    Arai Kenki (Arai Auto Auction Oyama Construction Equipment) is launched.

  • 2016

    ARS Nakayama store opened (Kanagawa pref.).
